Enter the experience of this visual and kinaesthetic space. By moving around the marked area, you alter the simulated bicontinuous structure on the floor. Let your movements be inspired by the structure and allow your body interact with it. Initially perceived as seperate digital and organic structures (projection/2-dimensional and human body/3-dimensional), they interlace, blur, and melt into each other to form more than the sum of their individual parts.

To create phase2phase I cooperate with Florian Stenger from the Institute of Scientific Computing at TU Dresden, Germany and Cindy Hammer and Susan Schubert from go plastic, a Dresden-based dance company that has been associated with the HELLERAU – European Centre for the Arts Dresden since 2016.

The technical realization uses state of the art methods for information transfer. The position and movements of the visitors are tracked by a camera and an algorithms. The information is used to interpolate between different time frames of a computed phase separation process of two fluids. This results in the conservation of a bicontinuous structure over various length scales, which are related to the intensity of the movements. At the vernissage this interactive space was activated by go plastic. The 2-dimensional result of this performance should draw attention to the risk potential of real-time algorithms.

It was awared with the KUWI DRESDEN 2017.

The work was extended to different structures, resampling material anisotropies and gestures to navigate through the material database. The instalation was shown at CRTD in 2018.
